چکیده

In this paper we investigate accuracy limits for 3-D rigid body motion estimation under perspective projection. Our approach is based on the observation that due to the discrete pixel nature of the image data the epipolar lines in real images can be represented by corresponding discrete line segments. We employ the theory of Farey series to derive subspaces in the motion parameter space that can be covered by a single representative. The size and arrangement of these cells depend on the camera geometry, the image resolution and the feature point correspondence accuracy. Our results support the observations made by many other researchers that the accuracy not only depends on the above mentioned factors, but also strongly depends on the actual motion itself. Simulation results show the accuracy limits derived for di erent cameras when working at varying image resolutions.

Observability/identiability of Rigid Motion under Perspective Projection

The \visual motion estimation" problem concerns the estimation of the motion of an object viewed under projection. This paper addresses the feasibility of such a problem. We will show that the model which deenes the visual motion estimation problem for feature points in the Euclidean 3D space lacks both linear and local (weak) observabil-ity. The locally observable manifold is covered with thre...

Robust estimation of rigid-body 3-D motion parameters based on point correspondences

The estimation of rigid-body 3-D motion parameters using point correspondences from a pair of images under perspective projection is, typically, very sensitive to noise. In this paper, we present a novel robust method combining two approaches: 1) the SVD analysis of a linear operator resulting from the feature points and the displacement vectors and 2) a modified version of the well-known weigh...

Dynamic Rigid Motion Estimation from Weak Perspective

Weak-perspective” represents a simplified projection model that approximates the imaging process when the scene is viewed under a small viewing angle and its depth relief is small relative to its distance from the viewer. We study how to generate dynamic models for estimating rigid 3-0 motion from weak-perspective. A crucial feature in dynamic visual motion estimation is to decouple structure f...

Euclidean Structure Recovery from Motion in Perspective Image Sequences via Hankel Rank Minimization

In this paper we consider the problem of recovering 3D Euclidean structure from multi-frame point correspondence data in image sequences under perspective projection. Existing approaches rely either only on geometrical constraints reflecting the rigid nature of the object, or exploit temporal information by recasting the problem into a nonlinear filtering form. In contrast, here we introduce a ...
